Just for your perusal.

335d in left lane is ECU tuned otherwise stock, 335i with camera mounted is in the right lane. 335i is stock.

Had 6 runs with each other with the same result. Then swapped cars and had the same result.

Seems pretty conclusive.

What bhp / torque is the mapped 335d running and what were the timed runs / terminal speeds?

shows how much you know then.

On that particular run 335d did 13.6@104 and the 335i 14.1@100

Best of the day for both cars was as follows

13.4@103 for 335d and 14.1@100 for 335i

20mph headwind and bad traction issues. On a better day i think both cars could knock off 0.4secs and add 2-3mph (well actually i know that, i have run better before). Nothing wrong with 335i, we had rolling start on way home and = same result. I have other friends with 335i and i always have the same result.

Look in Performance tuner this month. Tuned 335i and 335d 0-100mph almost identical..

So a tuned 335d is 0.7 quicker than a stock 335i, so what about a tuned 335i ???

Performance BMW and Peformancer tuner had a chipped 335i and 335d do 0-100mph in 11.8 and 11.9 respectively.

Blimey. Worth considering in my list of potential cars then. Don't know if I could do without a nice loud growl to back it up though frown

Are these recent issues Carlos or are you referring to the BMW Car Mag article?

Hmmm ok.

Performance Car did the article on std 335i v 335d in last months issue, so it must have been the article in BMW Car Mag you were referring too for the remapped times.

Jules.

You might be right but its an auto thats why its slow!

They should roll from 30mph to 150mph to get a clearer picture!

To be honest I don't think there's going to be much between a 335i and a 335d regardless of the gearbox in the 335i. The recent test in BMW Car referred to elsewhere in this thread basically showed that to be the case so which is "best" really comes down to personal preference. For me it would be a manual 335i everytime but I do understand why others (e.g. those that do lots of motorway miles) may prefer a 335d!

The car with more power is quicker? No way!

They are both boring to drive compared with a proper M engine biggrin

A remap knocks around a second off the 335d and the tuning boxes around .7 seconds off the 335i.

You said on that video you got...

"On that particular run 335d did 13.6@104 and the 335i 14.1@100"

So to 100mph (approx.) the reamapped 335d is .5 a second quicker??

That sounds about right to me.

Yours is DMS remapped I think????
So it should be around 345bhp now vs 306bhp.

Adding a tuning box to the 335i giving it approx. 365bhp would be interesting.

I estimate 0-100 in that run for the 335d 12.4, I was once timed with datron timing gear and did 13.7@104 1/4mile and did 12.5 0-100 the same run, take off a tenth and its 12.4.

The 335i has done 0-100 in 14.1 seconds as per his quartermile says.

So id say its over 1.5 seconds quicker to 100.
