From a stealer is £20,000ish so auction price of £16,000ish is more or less right.

Thanks for the info.
Cheapest 650 under 40,000 miles on Autotrader is £22k and BMW AUC cars start at £24k.
Could the book be overly negative?
No - they are not selling on autotrader, so asking is not a good guide. I have followed one with a full spec from a top end dealer fall from £25 down to £21.75K last time I looked and reckon they would take your arm off at £20K. Expect about 16-17K at auction and remember the buyers premium of about £5-600 on top. Also remember a good spec 55 plate at a delaers around Xmas asking £20k, so not a car you need to rush at and 630s even cheaperCheapest 650 under 40,000 miles on Autotrader is £22k and BMW AUC cars start at £24k.

How the market has turned! Unbelievable.
Early 2005 650i now being offered at £29995, about a £4k-£5k increase in less than 3 months!

Just because the dealer is 'asking' £29995 for an 05, doesnt mean (a) its worth it and (b) he'll get it.
There's loads on Autotrader at well below that price... cheapest is £22,995 (2005, 650i with 41k miles). There's even a BMW AUC 2006 06 plate 650I with 36k miles for £24,645... lots of AUC cars around the £25k mark. Obviously these are asking prices... I cannot believe they sell close to that...
BTW - A client of mine has just sold his mega-mileage 645i (2004/54 with 143k miles!) for £9k
. He said his BMW dealer would not touch it (even though he was buying a new 635d) - in the end they 'did him a favour' by finding an independent trader who would take it off his hands... I'd been in that car several times and despite the mileage it still felt like new (shame about all the stone chips on the front though!).
He does about 40k miles a year and reckons that he will save about 1,000 gallons a year in the 635d and the money saved will cover a huge chunk of the finance cost of the new car. I think trying to sell any 3+ year old car with a large petrol engine (even a 6 series) is a massive challenge right now... (and who would buy a 143k mile 645 at any price?)

1. This is a non-sport in an undesirable colour combo that's been around for ages.2. lots of AUC cars around the £25k mark. Obviously these are asking prices... I cannot believe they sell close to that...
2. There are two, not lots, around £25k; a poverty spec 34k miler at £25690 and a 60k high-miler at £25888.
There are four low miles/good spec cars between £29995 and £31995 – as previously stated, three months ago these would have been £4k less.

but I guess you're looking for a very particular spec. The point I was trying to make is that there is a fair bit of choice and prices are not as high as some might think. I haven't seen much evidence that 3+ year old large petrol engined cars have increased in value this quarter... on the contrary if you're trying to sell one it is a nightmare (as per my client's experience trying to offload his high miles 645).There are 20 x 650i on AT for less than 30K including a 14k mile Sport 2006/06 plate for £27k. There's an AUC 06 plate Sport 36k miles for £24k too.. Most seem to have well below average miles. I don't for a moment expect prices to remain at this level for long - the recession is barely underway and pretty much everyone I know who has bought in the last year has moved to either diesel or a much smaller petrol engine - they're all trying to pay down mortgages and other debt to increase security as the recession takes hold and vastly fewer people have the appetite for a 3/4/5 year old expensive-to-run thirsty coupe.

You've picked one poverty-spec highish mileage car.
The next cheapest is £29,995.
No 650i is 'poverty spec', and with the one you quoted, you're paying a serious premium (£8K+) for a lot of toys that are valueless. The next cheapest is £29,995.
The car has done 34K in 3 years, so below average?
You'd be being seriously ripped off to buy the one you quoted.

I dont know why you're defending your choice of 05 car thats a good £7000-£8000 overpriced?
25-29k is it worth even talking about?
I'd happily pay those sort of variances for the right car... most looking for a "good 'un" in perfect spec to their desires would too I'm sure.
Far too many people trying to save a grand or two and ending up with a car that's "not quite right"... why bother... for an aspirational vehicle, do it once and properly.
Not that anyone asked me to chip in
