just looked at 320 that originally had run flat tyres fitted, now has different wheels/tyres, but the tyre pressure warning is on all the time, do the original wheels have sensors in them, and can the settings be changed in the car to stop the warning from coming on?

No they don't have sensors in the tyres. The BMW system, except on some X5s works off the ABS sensors and detects difference in rotation across an axle.

As long as the tyres all have similar tread depth, or at least the fronts do and the rears do, and the pressures are right, it shouldn't matter what type of tyre is fitted and the TPMS will still work OK.

If the system is triggered I believe it needs resetting, as explained in the owners manual.
