both are relatively simple 2.5l i6 sohc with similar hp (apples to apples more or less) what are the significant differences?

this is a hypothetical question say if you were to choose one for a one off build

the 325i motor would have had fuel injection; but what are construction differences, weight, valve size, bore/stroke....

The Triumph motor is not OHC but pushrod with intake and exhaust on the same side of the iron head.



...looks like the ports might be siamesed too.

The M20 on the other hand has a crossflow alloy head with considerable development potential - 182bhp in ALPINA C2 2.5 form, 210bhp in stroked 2.7 guise.

Unless of course you are talking about the 2.6 Triumph in line six which was fitted to some SD1 models. This was OHC and crossflow and crap. Stick with the Beemer.
