X5 whine / gearbox / diff / bearing?

Help!! after the snow has gone I have noticed a whine and no the wife and kids aren't in the car!, the noise seems to be eminating from the front of the car possibly offside, the noise is more prominent from offside at 20mph /30mph and worse uphil / downhill.

Any ideas fellas? I'm dropping it into Motech for them to look over but I'm already working myself up to a big bill something I could do without.

Good news, that's always first thing to check, makes a BIG difference once they are fixed!
