I`m a BMW technician, and i would say most customers bring the cars in when they have around 500 miles to go until the service is due....
But i had one car today that was 24,000 miles overdue!
Interesting, thanks. But i had one car today that was 24,000 miles overdue!
I only ask as I read a post on here of someone viewing a car that was 6k over due. 24k rains on that parade

A chap in one place I used to work had a Renault Megane 1.9dci he had it for 4 years and put on at least 80k. It didnt get serviced once - it was a fleet car and somehow they never contacted him to arrange the service (he contacted them once after a year/when the service came up on display and they didnt bother getting back to him). He drove it like he stole it he never checked the oil level/topped it up..... Oh and it should have been on a max milage of 60k...
It didnt sound the best - I have the reg saved in an email from him just in case I accidently come across it and try to buy it.

When all the green bars are gone and the orange one comes up.
Do modern BMWs still even use this system?
No. Its a digital milage countdown, based on usage.Do modern BMWs still even use this system?

Not sure when it changed.

I used to do this, then I worked out each coloured bar was about 3K miles at my style of driving.
I'm not hardcore enough to wait until the red light comes on,
so I usually wait until I've got about a thousand miles into
the orange light before checking my bank balance and making
the appointment with the dealers.
