My car (X5 4.8is) was in for an inspection II last week. Since then it has 'chugged' on start up (I know it's cold but it didn't really do it before). Didn't really worry too much about this but now the dash light which the manual says relates to exhaust emissions has flashed on two occassions for 30 - 60secs on start up then goes out.......

Any ideas on what this could be - something caused by the service or just coinceidence?

I have 200 miles left before I reach the upper limit of the 5yr service and maintenance pack so might get it looked at sharpish!!

The emissions warning light can be a wide number of things - quite common is can shaft sensor fault; when my Alpina showed this warning it was a failed DME unit. Could also be lambda sensor. Your best bet is to get it back to the dealers for diagnostics. Given that you are experiencing running problems it is likely to be a genuine fault as opposed to a transient defect which I have also had (on my 330Ci) which simply required resetting.

...nice car by the way - have had a hankering for a 4.8iS X5 for a while now!

Cheers for the reply - hope it isn't anything too major though.eek

Would highly recommend the 4.8is, prices dropping like stones for something this politically incorrect tho!! Had mine since early last year but thankfully bought at a good price. Should be a few bargains about at the moment anyway - I read on here someone bought 06 plate with <10k for under £19,000.....
