Hi all,

Would welcome any advice, information about running one of these? Am taking a 08 with auto box for a drive tomorrow,it has leather interior, metallic paint, front seat heating and bletooth phone prep.
Main dealer is asking £27,495.
Interested in your thoughts+observations about the car generally and the price/value?
Thanks very much in advance

You might find the run-flats a bit harsh...O/H had a 330i M Sport Touring and it was a fab car, great to drive etc but the hard ride took some getting used to. Other than that we had no complaints. It looked fantastic too with the Panoramic sun roof.driving

Runflats are a pain in the ass, always make it sound to me like a wheel bearing has gone. Quite crashy on the m-tech suspension too, but lovely cars. Am I right in thinking the 325d uses the same engine as the 330d but with a lower state of tune? What are the differences? Could you sort of revert one to x30d spec by, err, mapping it?

Thanks for the feedback guy's...took the car out and really enjoyed it,pulled like a train and the auto box works really well with that motor.unfortunately though the bootspace not big enough for what we need so have given the whole thing a re-think..so taken with the car that now thinking of trying out the coupe version and buying a "bread and butter" type estate car for towing the tintent, hauling the dog about etc.
Salesman confirmed that the engine is the same as that used in the 330 but in a lower state of tune..so possible to retune.

Cheers all

Why not try a 5 series estate? More more space and similar driving experience.

The current 325d is a 3.0 but is turbocharged - just has the wick turned down a bit compared to a 330d.

With £27.5K in your pocket you could pick up an M sport 5 series tourer - certainly a 525d (same engine) or if you are patient/look hard/negotiate well you could get a 530d.

Sorry to jump in, I'm considering a 325d Touring (could be SE, could be M Sport). I've got a test drive of an M Sport Touring at the weekend but have a question.

Given that the 330d and the 325d are the same engine, all the sources I've found on the internet have mapping results in which the two enginers are still separated in terms of both horsepower and torque. I can only guess that there must be something different between them other wise you could make the 325d have exactly the same stats as the 330d. So what's going on?

With Audi (an alternative to the 3 series), you get the 140 and the 170 versions of the 2.0TDi, and apparently they've got different turbo units on them, which means they stay separated even when mapped. Could this be the same for the BMW?

Probably - I did say before that they were the same engine, but didn't mean they were identical, just that the 325d had the same capacity as the 330d and a single turbo. It may well be mechanically different in the details.

Is there much difference in price?

So far, I've seen a couple of grand in it, between the 325d and the 330d at less than a year old. It's enough to put the 330d the wrong side of the line in terms of affordability. I'd love a 330d, and what's more gauling is that the 'best' option advertised on BMWs used cars, is a real steal, but is still too expensive for my budget. Hence the 325d as an option.

Still 197bhp isn't too bad. I can always run it for the duration of the warranty as is, and then think about mapping it to get some more beans in it.
