Hello all.

Does anyone know where I can get a LSD for my 1991 325i?

Also, is there anyone who knows if an M3 fits?

Thanks

Quaife do one for about £650

The M3 diff won't fit directly as it's a wider casing, but apparently the internals can be swapped round.

The M3 3.0 will fit, it is the same diff (ie same size and ratio) but it uses a different input flange (M's had a 6 bolt CV joint, and the 325 has a 4 bolt UJ.)

You can swap them over, but mark the pinion/bolt to the nut as there is a conical bearing / crush tube thing behind it for setting preload or something like that so it should really be torqued up by a specialist who knows about these things.
BMW won't even sell the flange by itself as they don't want BMW techs touching it.

The 3.2 evo uses a bigger diff, and that needs a complete rear axle transplant and custom prop to fit on a 325.

Ok, I must have been thinking of the EVO diff then.

Yea, it uses a huge one that isn't found on any of the others, so you'll need a load of evo parts to go with it, or it just isn't happening

But the upside of fitting the Evo one is that you can stick a lovely low-ratio gear set in it from an E46 M3 biggrin

I don't like the quaife unit - it's more unpredictable than a clutch unit IMO

what I would do, is buy an E30 LSD and swap the internals over into your diff - may as well have the clutch packs rebuilt while you are there
