Hi Guys

Im going to be getting one of these motors this month. Each car has its perks and i think id probably keep both for 3 years, Certainly a 335i with the tuning options.

Both will be around 25k. So an 07/57 M-Sport 335i or a 06/55 650i

I only do about 8k miles a year, so can average out a slightly higher milage car over time.

Im thinking the 6er will hold its value better due to less being made, and a more premium model. Ive been sold on the 6 for a while now, but the poke of a 335i is just far too tempting...

So which do you think will hold its value better?

Personally I would go with the V8, are you really that conecerned over losing value if you are keeping it for 3 years?

I would say that the 335 would get first run but 650 would reel it in by 60 and keep slowly pulling away. I have a 650 and as others have said, it just feels so much more special than a 335

You should be aiming for a 56 plate if going for a coupe at £25k as it is far less popular at the moment than the cab. If headroom is not an issue, go for the panaormaic roof and make sure you buy the sport variant

Hi Folks

Ipwn:
Yeh the value is a concern, not a huge one. But i always like to know im getting value for money. And if theres a chance of retaining an extra 4k towards my next car, ill always take that into consideration. Anything towards the Skyline fund makes me feel better... lol

Greatdogwood:
Cheers for the advice man. Its definately going to be a sport if i go 650i, and would be great to get a 56 reg. Although the prices seem to be creeping up. And i would prefer to get something like this from a stealer to start off with.

Thecount:
Ive gone round in circles deciding what car next. Its mainly been between an Audi RS4/S5 Subaru STI, 335i or 650i... I want somehting that isnt going to cost me an arm and a leg to keep going. And with the whole DRC thing on the RS4 i just cant justify it. A 50k Car that has such a common and reacuring fault isnt good in my eyes.

The STI, although i could have it paid for in a year, just doesnt appeal to me anymore. The R32 has a moderate level of comfort and dont think i could rattle around again. Its just the whole 4wd + turbo always gets me going..

This is where the S5 came in. Tiptronic/V8/4WD and a new model. But i just dont think there exciting enough for 35k+

So back round to the 650i and 335i...

I must admit the main draw to the 335i is how tuneable they are. Id defintley chip it after a year or two, and then they can really run with the much bigger boys. But i must see say 4/5 m-sports a day, plus theres 2 x 335is down my road. All of a sudden they appeal alot less.

So thats how ive come to these two cars. smile But always open to suggestions...

So the general feeling is that tha 650i will be worth a tad more in 3 years.

Totally agree if the budget's around £35k but in the OP a figure of £25k is mentioned - I know prices of big engined petrol cars have dropped a long way but can you really get a decent 06 XKR for that?!!

Your right, these do seem to be 35k up, 4.2 non XKR's are advertised high 20's now though, still a nice car, 300bhp.

P.S REALLY wanted to like the XKR and sounds is really REALLY addictive... but interior feel and the thought of driving in a car with an old engine rehashed to sound sexy just made me feel like it wasn't the real deal.

I know I'm biased but at least the M6 feels like it's a uncomprised piece of engineering in comparison.

It's special every time I get in it... biggrin

650i probably more rarer than M6- just don't see them around. If you want exclusivity it's the 650i to go for

Some intresting points and cars mentioned there lads..

XKR and Vantage are amazing but a little too far out of my reach. While 10k aint a huge issue. Just owning one of those cars at my age isnt something i want tbh...

Around the 35k mark id be eyeing up a e92 M3. Havent looked at these due to the DCT being quite a bit more..

This has been the toughest car change ever... The R32 has ticked so many boxes....

I like the talk of modding a 650i. Could get expensive though i bet smile
