Is apparently going up for sale on e-bay today.

They paid £6,800 for it originally, so I wonder what it will go for.

Can't decide if the fact that it's been featured in the magazine so often actually increases the value...

I thought the whole point was to run it long term? Selling it already?!

Apparently it was something to do with having too many Alpinas on the fleet.. with the arrival of their new long term test car..

Wow, what a great long term summary of what running a car on LPG is like.

Faff about tarting it up, finally convert it, then run it for a whole ~5k miles tops?

Roger Green is a long term BMW fan, but I believe that the offer of a D3 Alpina (Diesel) was too good to refuse.

Evo's fleet looks like a very average middle of the road lineup. Not much there to make the pulse race.

The DBS is run as a track hire car as is the Lambo.

The SLK is going, going, gone.

The WRX STI Subaru is a cold car compared to a Litchfield import.

The Lexus IS-F must be the only one on the UK roads.

The Ford Focus ST makes for interesting reading as does Barkers Jag.

Don't get much news from the Range Rover / RS6.

Porter writes nothing about the Evo and although the Mazda RX-8 is interesting why not go for something more fun??

Come on Evo get some more Evoness cars!

You can't have too many ALPINAs in your fleet.

What a complete disaster. 8k miles in an LPG Alpina. Yea, that was worth it. I was looking forward to several years of updates..

Agreed. But I did enjoy the tale of going to France ( but not through Eurotunnel of course ) and then trying to fill up with LPG in France ( woops, different fitting )

I had a ride in one being driven rather enthusiastically at Castle Combe last summer. It was very good! Haven't seen another since, mind, though this was a private car.

Now, that is a lovely car for absolute peanuts! Facelift headlights and rear + shadowline = looks like a peach!

As to why Evo already got rid of their LPG equipped one, it really is very poor, and certainly the D3 is not really what Evo is (or should be) about...

As above, I'm kind of missing the point of the exercise? The time frame is far too quick, & why swap it out anyway? I guess they may get a bit of an indictation of costs that they can extrapolate from, but I reckon they may well prove it's not such a good idea! I am a bit biased, I've got the one they tested with the Merc & the Jag: I wouldn't LPG it, & I won't be getting rid any time soon, either biggrin

This was a car that I was genuinely looking forward to Evo running for a year or so.. Would their theory about running a V8 on LPG as an economical alternative to petrol be worth it.

Its such a shame that they didn't clearly have the courage of their convictions.

They go on and on about these sort of used bargains that can be had and then when given the chance to share the realities of ownership with their readers - they do 8k in it and throw in the towel.

Either the car isn't that special or they just couldn't be bothered to go through with it all.

Well done Evo you managed to prove it's possible to buy a V8 and convert it to LPG – well let’s be honest we could all have worked that out for ourselves, all the questions about what it's like to live with are still unanswered.

This decision is a great shame and an opportunity lost. It would have been good to continue reading fast fleet reports where rather than a brand new car performing flawlessly a vehicle with some character might have sprung a surprise or two.

They have stated the cost of petrol is a big factor now that its much cheaper than it was. Mind you, it is going up again so maybe they have shot themselves in the foot.

As for the R3 not being fun. Have you ever driven an RX8? They are certainly not boring.

its boring waiting for the tiny-torque to arrive and if you keep them on the boil, its boring filling them back up with fuel.
Twas a RX8 Prodrive so it handled pretty well
