After being gazumped on a 335i coupe, I am no back to the drawing board, and today it was suggested that if I am spending circa £20k I should look at a 645ci instead.

Have a seen a few 04/05 circa 40k mile cars for the same money I'd get a 56 plate, 20k miles 335i for, but I am certainly tempted, and the fact that it will be totally different to my current 325i coupe makes it even more attractive. Anecdotal evidence suggests about a 5mpg difference in economy which I can live with, but having never been in one, photos would suggest that there is far less space in the back than the 3 series coupe.

My kids are 1 and 3, and only really go in the car at the weekend or when going away somewhere, but is it feasible to have 2 forward facing car seats strapped in the back and still have the front seats in the correct place (I am 6' tall so suspect I'll be mid way ish on the rails).

Can anyone advise before I go and tempt myself with a test drive!?

Anything in particular I should be aware of? I like the sound of dynamic drive but suspect it could be hideously expensive if it goes wrong out of warranty?

Cheers

Make it 30k and buy an M6 :-)

Ok... seriously now....

Yes you can feasibly get them in. The seats, on the M6 at least, are quite sculpted so I've also put some towels under the base to both have a level base and also protect the leather as I tie the seat in TIGHT :-)

Both seats will go in, my 20 month old goes behind me and I'm 5foot10, 11 year old goes behond the front passenger. For a 6 footer I'd say you need to go to a dealer and check with your car seat, mine is the £60 mothercare one and does the job well.

You won't want to keep moving 2 seats back and forth all the time though as it's a PITA...

It will be a tighter squeeze I think but then the boot is easily big enough for a buggy plus weekend bags/loads of shopping plus the 6 is a much more luxurious place to be..

The dynamic drive option works, it really does. Cornering is freakishly flat whilst the ride remains reasonably comfortable, even on 19's.

I personally would not own a 6-series without a BMW warranty. They are not known to have problems, but are now getting to an age where things might start coming up. These are very complicated cars, especially if all the option boxes have been ticked.
