Discounts 123d?

I am intrigued by the 123d coupe however they seem a lot of cash for what they are with a decently specced one at 26k ish. Now in the current climate is there any likelyhood of a decent discount?

The 123d M sport coupe is a FAR better car than a lot of people realise.
I have just sold mine after nearly 12000 miles of happy use!
They are quick (a track day at Donnington proved that), easily capable of 42-45mpg average, have much more space inside than you can imagine (I have 13 and 9-yr old children), ride well, and (in my opinion) look great too - I had an e46 M3 before it and they are kind of Big-brother-little-sister-ish.
I paid full whack for mine as an ex-demo, when they were harder to get hold of and justified the whopping premium over the Golf DPF and Alfa Brera 2.4 by the huge technical advances the BM has over both.
I don't regret the extra outlay at all, even selling to a dealer after less than a year I did not loose as much as I did on the M3 or most previous cars!
BMWs are not as reliable as the image suggests, however (I've had about 15-20 of them!) So make sure of warranty, history, condition etc (I would suggest including a full print-out of full diagnostics report just minutes before you take delivery too).
Tyres on my 123 wore unevenly too - they looked great from outside but were wearing thin accross the width, getting worse on the inside. (Set of 4 is only £500 all-up though)
Apart from the aforementioned track day, I drove mine like my Granny would and mpg stayed above 42. 14,000 mile service cost £200 (compared to the £800 the last service on our Golf cost!)
Anyway, in short, go for it - I don't think you'll be disappointed.

my heart tells me to go for it, but my head is torn!! i currently have a 2007 civic type r gt with only 13k on the clock. i recon to move up to a 123d m sport would probably cost me 13-14k plus trade in. My head tells me this would be mad given i have a good car as it is. My heart says i crave something a bit more refined and classy

I use broadspeed.com as an indicator of discounts available, and then beat my local dealer up with that.
I guess its best to try several dealers if you have a trade in, as i've seen even a couple of thousand of difference in value. Plus it depends on their feeling on your car.
I've a 535d and i know at present my local dealer wouldnt give me much of a price on it as they have three 535d's out of 8 5 series they are carrying. The next nearest seems to have made the decision not to carry anything above a 520d.
Also, if your trade in is not a BMW and < 4 years old, they will trade it on so travelling to dealers outside your local area will get your car exposure to different traders.

What about a nice secondhand 135i coupe they're starting to get cheaper now.
i wasnt really fancying something mentally fast, just something with a bit more refinement and a bit of class together with a little bit of poke for overtaking!anyone any experience of a 120d? is that still nippy?
Not sure about discounts on new cars, but I got a 123d M Sport 3 door on Friday as a company car and I love it. A real quality car with a great turn of speed.
Check out www.babybmw.net for some more 1 series specific info.
There do seem to be good discounts on ex demo and nearly new cars.

Get one 6-12 months old is my advice as they're too expensive brand new IMHO. BMW put shed loads of new cars into their company car schemes, many at head office etc get new cars every 3 months to keep new "sales" up and generate nearly new cars for the dealers. The downside of that is that first year depreciation is quite steep. I bought a year old 10k mile 123d 5 door M Sport for £16k privately in January, via a dealers it would have been perhaps £1500-2000 more. Brand new it would have been about £27-28k though, so Ive "avoided" £10k of depreciation by sourcing nearly new, not that I had the money to buy new anyway, but not something I'd like to absorb if I had the choice.
