I have been motoring around with the top down, and was thinking about getting a wind deflector, to stop the killer chill on my left arm.

Do the wind deflectors fit all cars (OK, so I know they have to be convertible) or do they need fitting kits for the cars?

Anyone have one at the back of the garage that needs a good home? biggrin

Dont know if the E36 is the same, but for the E46 its simply plug and play.

If you like roof off motoring in the winter months, they're a must have IMO. I bought one off eBay last year for c£100 and it was worth every penny!

Just got one for my E36 on Saturday. Have to say that it was very good. The only issue I had is after hooning for the day I decided to give a couple of people a lift back from a party. The bloody wind deflector will not fit in the boot, so it was a little bit of a squeeze with the wind deflector lying across the laps of the people in the back.
Does anyone know if you can get a deflector that will fold in half like the one for the E46?

I've just got one from BMW - £285 inc vat

Be warned though, you also need a couple of fitting brackets to be ordered seperately apparently. Mine turn up in 4-5 working days...

I've got one that is currently collecting dust and is in great condition (not used by me or the owner before me). It's the original BMW wind deflector that came with the car.

You can have it for £100 if you're still looking.
Sounds like an interesting idea. Where abouts are you?

Are you sure? Mine fits in just fine (just!) and even has a little pic on the bag telling you how to put it in? Although, as said above, mine doesn't yet have whatever attachments are needed to actually fit it to the car - maybe these need to come off first?

It was the first time I had used so I could have missed something. I will have a look next weekend. I don't have a bag for it, so no picture to go by.

Fold it up and put it in the boot rounded end first at 45 degrees... should slide in and take up the whole of the boot floor except that little useless bit under the roof!

I'm in central London, will send you an email with my contact details and we can take it from there. Happy for you to come by and take a look if you're ever in the area.

By the way, mine does fit in the boot (only just).

Thanks JD. I road tested the device on the way up to Clacton, and it does the job.

Glad you're happy with it!

Hope your wife didn't suffer too much with the top down wink

Hi, sorry to highjack, but does anyone know if all deflectors will fit in the boot. I don't mind paying a bit more, but I imagine having a deflector that won't go in the boot would be a nightmare!

I am looking for one for an E36 M3 Cab. I assume the boot space is the same as a 325i say?

Not sure if it's relevant but I was told by my dealer that the reason I needed seperate brackets for my deflector is that the E36 and E46 now shared the same deflector?

Not sure if this is true but if it is it might explain why one bought now is a different shape to an older one.

Ahh.. and the E46 one folds I think? Hence why some people have folding wind deflectors and some people don't? I definately have backets for taking one, but I guess the E46 ones may be slightly different so need to be changed.

Had a spin with the hood down, and its definately needed on the motorway, esp if the sun hides behind a cloud for a bit!

Edit for spalliing

I have managed to get my deflector into the boot on top of a set of golf clubs and a trolley, so they do fit, honest.

Awesome news. What type do you have? Official BMW one for an E36 etc? i will copy you and get that one then. I'm sure they all work the same more or less, just really want one that fits in the boot!

THREAD HIJACK:

Anyone interested in taking a hardtop off my hands, located Leeds - e36 M3 hardtop, car itself now sold but due to excessive haggling by spotty youth, hardtop kept. Titanium silver (you can respray to suit), pretty sure it fits all e36 convertibles, very good condition, heated rear window with flaps to cover the brackets. Will get it onto eBay eventually, just thought I'd try here first.
