Retro fit M5 instruments into 528i problems
Discussion
Hi,
Wel i had to try it, i bought a used M5 instrument cluster , i got a guy to code my vin number onto it so that the mileage was correct and no tamper dot.
So i plugged it in ok, but then hit problems, the tacho isn't working and the coolant temp guage is in the red and asc light is also on,my low obc has stopped working too
What does work is the speedometer and my fuel guage, the tacho lights are only lit up to match the 6500rpm red line my motor, which was good.
I've done a search but all the info is about retrofits into 540's.
Maybe some of you 540 owners can help, did you have to get anything else coded along with the vin, i've read something about an ike?
Any help really appreciated.

You have a number of problems.
Firstly you are trying to retrofit a high OBC cluster into a low OBC car. This is possible but will require extra wiring to work properly as well as a coolant temperature sensor fitting into your expansion tank.
Secondly you are trying to fit a used cluster into a car. This is very difficult anyway as the cluster needs to be coded to the car, and its going to be virtually impossible to do this sufficiently enough not to trigger the mileage tamper system on a used cluster.
Basically the only way to do this properly and it work perfectly is to fit a NEW cluster into a car with the correct retrofit loom fitted.
It's more hassle than its worth.

Hi,
I had the high obc already in my car,i got it coded with my cars vin number so that there is no mileage tamper dot.
I want o try just because they look good,my cluster wasn't broken.
I've been on a couple of the American BMW forums and it may be possible providing my local indy has the right software,i let you know how i get on,
Cheers
