BMW 320D (E90)
Discussion
Thinking of buying the above car (was originally looking at an E46 330ci but decided given I do about 20k per annum wasn't really for me buying an older car with higher mileage).
Have found one for £14k. Its an ES spec so no leather or toys but has all the basics (though apparently the leather can be retrofitted if I really want it). On a 57 plate with under 10,000 miles from a main dealer. Had a test drive, really liked it. Didn't seem to experience any problem with the run flats or ride (i suppose the smaller wheels help).
Does this seem like a good deal? Anything I should look out for or that I am going to regret by going for the lower spec?

surely you could get a decent spec sport/se for that money, albeit with a few more miles but thats not a bad thing by any means.
funnily enough i faced a similar scenario a few months back.....and i bought a 330ci! and put the 10 grand i saved in my back pocket. its so far working out no more expensive to run than the diesel motor i replaced!

Been looking around and could'nt find much for around the price range. Another for the same price and 15k miles in SE spec only on an 06 plate. Kentmotorcompany has a 320i SE with low miles and a ton of extras for same price but then its a petrol and a 06 plate again with no dealer warranty (still looks like a nice car).
Car supermarkets have a good selection such as Bigmotoringworld but wary of buying from any of them.

Original car in question still sounds a pretty damn good price to me.
A bit more spec is nice in a daily driver if you're doing 20k a year, but think you'll have to go quite a bit older and with more miles to get noticeable improvement in spec for much of a saving. Thing that would put me off an ES is lack of climate and cruise control which I'd really miss. However it is more money in your pocket and the 57 plate gets you 177bhp and the efficient dynamics so would be more fun and more economical.
I get an average of 46mpg out of our e90 320d touring which includes driving in and out of London every day. More consistent motorway journey's see it up over 50mpg (despite an on board computer which says 40.9mpg at the best...)
Great cars

As far as I was aware the one in question is not efficient dynamics. Climate control would be nice. Cruise control not too bothered - have only used it about twice in 3 years on my C4. Only thing I think I might miss are the controls on the steering wheel. Obviously would prefer m-sport, leather etc.. but then for the price the ES looks like a good buy.
£14k is a very good price for that age/mileage from a main dealer. You say it is a 57-reg - does it have the latest Efficient Dynamics engine?? And what colour is it??
I bought a 57-reg 320d SE last May and am very pleased with it. The ES doesn't miss out on much - climate control and rear parking sensors are the only major things. The M sport model looks nice with all the extra bodykit bits, but some people find the ride overly harsh, and I personally think this spec makes more sense with the bigger engines than it does with the four cylinder diesel.

Brought a M Sport Coupe version of this myself 4 weeks ago, they did do an engine upgrade in Sep 07 which is 177bhp over 160bhp, I nearly brought the earlier car it was only when I mentioned the question did the salesman tell me this, I then brought the later model with Horse Power upgrade and engine effec dynamics, i've had E46 330 M Sport and 2 x 320 M Sport E46 and E 90, i'm so glad got 320 CD as does everything I need and cheaper to run, tax etc still looks and handles the part (got a bike for my speed thrills though)!
