2000 M5 - Music mutes randomly, and won't turn back on?

This is an odd one. Randomly when driving, my sound mutes in my car, and wont come back on. The display shows as the CD/radio/tape/TV as still playing, but no sound comes out of the speakers.

To get it working again, I have to stop the car, get out, lock it, and wait a minute or so, and then open it back up again.

So, Firstly, are the chaps correct, and my radio unit is borked? My GPS already seems to be - I don't even get the GPS/Nav option on the screen - so is it likely all my units are slightly dodgy, or is it some other gremlin somewhere?

As the GPS doesnt work, I was wondering if I could just buy something like this, and ditch everything in the boot - and/or if I could use my current 6-CD changer with it?

Any advice/help would be really appreciated - it's making a lovely car a bit frustrating!
