Hi all,

I've recently picked up a rather nice E36 2.0 Coupe and i'm having a bit of trouble sourcing a small part.

It's just the double exhaust clamp which bolts to a bracket off the gearbox. The bracket is fine but the clamp has rusted through.

My local spares agents don't list a pattern part and I really want to avoid main dealers. (After experience with costs on previous BMW's)

Any ideas where to source such a little fellow?

Many thanks,

Nick

They always rust through, i've removed mine about 2 years ago, and all is fine.

If you do want one though, it'll be either a breakers for another similar bit of rusted metal, or the dealers.

Thanks mate.. well one half of the clamp has completely come off so it's already only half a clamp and doesn't seem to have made the exhaust wobbley in any way.

It did manage to last 15 years.. smile

Out of curiosity i may ask a dealer what they charge.. (obviously ensuring i'm sitting down first)

not a lot really, about £6 for the main arm, and £4 for the lower bit that clamps on.

if you can get your own bolts, then that's all you need. BMW are quite expensive for the little basic fixings

That's not too awful. And i can source my own bolts.. (In stainless perhaps so they don't turn into a lump of brown mush! biggrin )

Rather like this little E36, though i'm a bit disappointed with metal/build quality compared with 80's BMW's i've had.

Depending on work/finances i'm getting rather drawn to sourcing an E36 M3 Coupe next or another E28 M5 (though i think i may end up being too 'precious' with the M5)
