530 d tiptronic
Discussion
Hi,
Just a query regarding the 530d auto. I test drove a 2006 model a couple of days ago and was impressed with the tiptronic facility. I would normally prefer a manual but read about the clunkiness of the manuals and having test driven a 2006 530d with the tiptronic auto box, that would be my choice. Unfortunately my budget fell short of the car that I was after, a 2006 AUC from Cooper BMW. There are are however cars within my price range available privately from 2004-2005. My question is was tiptronic standard on the 530d from a certain year on or was tiptronic standard from the start.
Many thanks as this will help me refine my search.

Not sure when it was standard etc, but I have been a fan of BMW tip for a while now - always seemed to the job really well (unless Porsche tip which is quite frankly s
te!)
The new generation with paddles are even better. In sports mode, regardless of the fact you may have a diesel under the bonnet the change is lightning fast and makes a significant difference to the driving experience.

Auto is the way forward. I was looking for a manual, did the research, never owned an auto, impressed with the manual's mpg etc.
Then test drove both auto and manual and could not see the point of the manual with that engine. Auto is fantastic; I average 34mpg which aint bad for a 230bhp auto. Yes the tiptronic works well, but you don't need to use it. The standard auto has a brilliant sense for the right gear, just point and shoot.
You should be able to get a sub 80,000 mile car on an 04 for less than 9k, should be a lot of choice.
