Hi all,

Is it expensive to get a spare key cut for an e36 m3, I was under the impression that the key is electronically coded?

Any help appreciated.

Gary.

£100 from the dealer. According to my local parts dept BMW have the code and know the barrell shape. I find it hard to beleive but they say its easy to get one. That would get you a new master key, not the plastic 'spare' you refer to.

Go to the dealer with some proof of ID and V5, and they'll get you one.

About £100, takes a couple of days.

Easy.

I just got a key done in Chandlers in Brighton. If you are a BMW OC member its 10% off parts and they are doing 60% off labour at the moment for cars over 10 years old. 30% over 6 years I think.

Good news is, its no where near £100. Its more liek £45-£50. My electronic 'blipper' was about £30-£40 to do too, as my car didn't have any spares.

You will need to take loads of ID and the V5 so you can prove its you and your car, which I'd prefer than have someone clone my key and take off.

You're right, of course - the M3 key is more like £35. I just got a new key for my E39 which was £100.

Thanks for all of the info lads, just looking out for an e36 M3 and some have only one key, just wanted to know if it would be expensive to get another.

Cheers.

oops, I wasn't trying to be a dick, although it came across like that. If its an E46 key and blipper I wouldn't expect too much, if any, change out of £200!

At least its not like the Maser 3200 'red key' nonsense!
