Hi everyone I have 2.8 double vannos unit and recently when I start her up, the engine struggles to keep revs between 1000, and 500 and the exhaust which is a ramus makes alot of popping noises. Only till i give it some gass it clears. Does anyone have any ideas, Ive heard it could be the cat starting to go.

Vanos seal issues are not unheard of on that engine - see http://www.beisansystems.com/

I have the just read the website phelix, it sounds very similar which is not good. I started her up this morning and the engine started to make very lond intermitant nocks every 2 seconds or so. Does anyone have an idea how much will this cost at a main dealer.

Vanos failure on the M52 TU is quite rare from what I know and I think it's more likely to be a cam position sensor or a coil, or other fairly minor electrical issue which a good local independent or your local dealer will probably be able to diagnose. Could also be a throttle position sensor packing up (another common fault).

Other ideas, are you're plugs due to be changed? Put fuel in anywhere unusual recently?

STU B thanks for your input. Reason y I got the M52 is that it its supost to be stronger than a single vanos. I cannot think of any unusual fuel but the problem started to be noticed on Friday the same day I found my self on red light on the fule tank light. That all through band range no power just judder and burble noise. Then it went away and then back again.

If it's intermittent, it's more likely to be electrical than mechanical. I've also spotted your posts on Zroadster now thumbup

Yep its on the Zforum as well, very intermittent I turned her over this morning and it sounded to struggle to either feed petrol or oxygen into the engine for it to have enough revs. So it dropped and rose between 500-1000 rpm so I put the my foot on the gas. It had no power and suddenly rose and cleared what ever the problem was to return to normal tick over and accelerator response fine. But i know it will prob start over again when I next start her up. I hope this is only electricle as I am going to put car up for sale in next month or so and get an MRoadster.

Well have taken my car in to the garage now to find the problem hopeful it will be something small and not the Vanos. Keep everyone informed.
