Alreet guys.

I have been looking at getting an E30 as a summer fun car. Pick-it up cheap and loacl, strip it out, weld the diff etc etc etc.

Anyway I bid on this E30 that is only 15 miles away.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am...

Got outbid but the winning bidder couldn't collect until July!! so I have been offereed it by the seller for £400 (my top bid) and asked if I want to go and have a look.

I need some advice though, I am well versed in buying cars but this is my first ever Beemer so:

-Is it worth £400, What should I offer?
-Will it make a decent 'fun' car (ie, a little bit of poke)?
-What specifically do I need to look for?
-What are the trouble areas on the 320 6 cylinder ingine?
-Where are the rust areas going to be?

Like I said it will only be for a bit of stripped out fun, but I can't afford money for new engine bits or rust repairs. As long as it is solid and running right it should do the job.

But shirely, if it was in an auction and you bid £400, thats what you pay, isnt it, or do i have it all wrong........

Once someone else wins, all the other bids are null and void. It would cost him £15-20 odd to relist - why not offer him £375 or so? How cheap do you want it anyway - you get £2000 to scrap a car these days (or will do soon) - there is no risk......or about as much risk as going out for a night on the town....

Sounds like bks to me. Shill bidding?

I'd say £400 was a bit much, but not having seen it, difficult to say.

a wild stab in the dark but maybe £400 since that's what you bid

He was outbid so that's irrelevant.

no it's not irrelevant

EFA - this thread typifies exactly why Ebay has turned to ste

the seller thinks he's got a bina fide bid then gets kicked in the stones by not only the first bidder but by the second just to add insult to injury

stand by your word

You have a point, but ebay is full of shillbidding shysters so you just have to play the game.

Buy it, it's a bargain.
I know the seller quite well through e30zone.net and he's a good egg - he won't be selling crap.
If you're planning to mess with the car, join up, you'll get plenty of good advice.

It is irrelevnt, completely irrelevant. He has asked if I want to buy it outside of ebay and as I did not win then my bid means nothing.

Thanks for the advice, I spoke to the seller earlier and he seemed very genuine. Going to have a look on Saturday, I will hopefully be a 2 car family again soon.

For someone with so many posts you're surprisingly naive. Not to mention unnecessarily insulting.

Agreed - Price is very time-sensitive which is why if I offered you £10K for your car 2 months ago and you told me to sling it because you had another better offer, and then you come back and want my £10K now - no one would expect me to "stand by" that offer....

lol

This sort of thing doesn't ruin Ebay - how preposterous!!!! The buyer could have got a mate to outbid the OP and then when he went too far goes back to see if he could get the £400 from the OP......

Naive much?

They rust all over the place tbh. Arches, boot floor, battery tray, inner wings, floors and sills etc. Just look every where!

It's cheap and stuff, but why not go for a 325? Seems a no brainer to me.

on a £400 car?

yes, I can now see how it could rocket in value or lose a small fortune in depreciation
