Hi guys, sorry for all the 130i questions.

As posted elsewhere, the wife and I viewed a 130i M Sport today and liked it very much. The one we looked at had Professional Nav. Now personally, I think it looks a bit cheap and, dare I say, slightly aftermarket sitting up on the dash as it does.

The wife, however, disagrees and I am struggling to convince her to look at any 130's without Nav now. With that brings the issue of price. It seems that most 130's don't have Nav and the ones that do seem to command a healthy premium.

Is it really worth the money and will it be retained within the resale price in 3 or 4 years time? Personally, I very much doubt it. Oh, and before it's suggested, she won't entertain the idea of a tomtom.

If there's a strong price difference I'd prefer a slightly newer, lower mileage car than have Nav. Maybe I'm wrong. What do you think?

Also, how are radio / CD functions displayed without the Nav?

Any thoughts from owners with and without Professional Nav would be much appreciated.

I have just this week picked up my July 2008 130i M Sport 3dr in Sparkling Graphite,Black Leather,Xenons etc.

I had the same thoughts and was set on getting a 130i M Sport LE(made 160 full spec).

But i decided to get a newer car with less miles for the same money.
I have a Tom Tom which works just fine.

My main requirments were Xenons and Bluetooth Prep which i got and quite a few more options on top.

Am loving it so far,4 days in and can't keep out of it.

I'm sure you'll win her over with a newer car without the Nav.

Well I haven't got Prof Nav but my Navman fits perfectly in the driver's side dash compartment for the occasion when it's required in my E91. I'm sure some will bang on about how it is 'better for resale' but if you get a good deal without it then I wouldn't worry about it especially if you are planning on keeping the car for a while.

BTW the 130 M Sport looks best in Sparkling Graphite IMO wink

I have a 55 with nav and personally, though I do like having iDrive and the ability to read my mp3 names and check oil levels etc on screen, the operation of the navigation is very poor compared to a dedicated unit.

The DVDs always seem to be out of date, seek time is quite slow and its not very intuitive to use. A touch screen Tom Tom is just so much quicker and easier than twirling the iDrive wheel to enter destinations. The only upside is that zooming in and out on the map is quick with the wheel.

Just to add, my car seems to have most options aside from leather, seat heating and uprated audio. I'd happily choose any of the 3 and get a £100 Tom Tom instead of the BMW nav.

However, some other benefits of the dash top screen are visual park sensors, ability to scroll through phone contacts, service indicators and trip computer data.

Me again Heathwood!

No nav in mine but I have a Garmin with a weighted dash base so you don't leave sticker marks on the screen and that works really well.

I can't see the point in spendign a fortune for built in nav unless you use it a lot I only need it every few weeks or so, if that.

I know tomtom etc are "better" than all the OE satnavs fitted by manufacturers, but I don't enjoy the hassle of removing 3rd party units every time you leave your car so some scrote doesn't smash your windows and steal it. You have to wipe off any tell tale window marks from the satnav suction sticker as thieves look for them and then break in and ransack your glovebox etc. I like the fact of having satnav built in and ready to use any time without having to carry it with me "just in case."

I've not got a 130, I've got an E46, but the satnav is fine for my use. It gets me where I'm going and I can search by postcode, thats all I realistically need. I can also use speed camera POI, I know this is often bounded about by supporters of tomtom etc. However, its the mobile cameras that get lots of people and you can't use tomtom etc to warn you of these.

Just my 2p worth wink
