E39 525SE or 530SE

I've now dismissed the jag X Type from my short list and have decided to return to BMW again, having previously enjoyed an 523i on an T plate. My question is there any real difference in the two engines 525 / 530?

My purchase is likely to have 100,000 - 110,000 miles up so a FSH is a must for me, but are there any weak spots I should pay special attention to when viewing/ driving the car?

Any definite 'don't buy' tips ?

Just buy the best examaple that crops up,wouldnt get too hung up on either, 525i feels a lot less restricted than the old 2.5ltr 523i.

Both the 525i and the 530i (and the 520i 2.2 for that matter) are both M54 engines just of different capacities so no other real differences.

Go for the 530 over the 525, I have had both a 325 / 330 - the extra HP and torque make the world of difference.
