3 series coupe or saloon?

I'm shortly going to be looking for a used 3 series, probably 325 or 330 in SE trim. I don't need much room in the back so I'm tempted by a coupe. Is there much difference in handling etc between the current shape coupe and saloon? If the coupe is better, what's the best option if I have to choose between an old shape coupe and a new shape saloon of the same age?

new shape saloon for me. The e46 is started to look dated to me.

The E46 330ci is a fantastic car as I'm sure many others here can vouch for it.
