Hi

I have an E60 which has an annoying habit. Approx 15 to 20 seconds after starting the engine, there is quite a loud BEEP that comes from the speakers and I have no idea what it is. The car does have an aftermarket handsfree system (Nokia) installed (very neatly) which I thought might be the problem somehow - and disconnected it (powerwise - at the cradle) but no change (I odnt use it anyway). There are no warning messages or anything else of any kind, the car just makes a very loud beep approx 20 secs after starting engine.

I thought I would try you guys as I haven't really mastered the Idrive yet and am clearly clueless as to what this may be....any thoughts....?

(And yes I know I need to provide pics...smile)

It sounds like it could be your car kit trying via bluetooth to connect to your phone and failing?

Sounds like the sound is emanating from the Handsfree kit. I know you say you've detached the power, but my father's S-Type makes a similarly loud beep approx 20/25 seconds after startup if it can't connect to the phone.

My E63 645ci does it too. I have the same Nokia kit - this makes a 'medium' pitch beep if the phone connects via bluetooth, and a low pitched beep if it doesn't. Disconnecting the cradle will probably not make any difference as the control unit is still in the car.

The volume of 'my' start-up beep is adjusted when the volume of the conversation (or ringing) through the handsfree is changed (with the ring around the Nokia microphone). I don't know how you can adjust the beep volume withouth having a phone connected - maybe try to download the kit instructions.

My car also makes a series of 4 or so short beeps shortly after starting - always assumed this was an indication that the iDrive had booted/satellite found/voice input ready or something..

Hi guys

Thanks for the ocmments, I also think it is the handsfree. It was fitted very neatly by the 1st (and last) owner, but I don't use Nokia. I will try to see if I can get the volume turned down somehow, perhaps borrow someone's Nokia...smile
