Hi everyone, I picked up my 635d Sport a few weeks ago and was wondering whether it is worth having it chipped? On a scale of 1 to 10, how noticeable will the performance be?

Where is the best place to have it done, for example Superchips or DMS? Does it void the manufactures warranty?

Your opinions would be welcome.

Many thanks in advance.

Nice looking car I would say judging from the results on a 335d (rofl) that the difference is huge..

That looks really nice. IMO the DMS remap makes the car feel aout 20% faster than standard. The pick up is lovely and personally it suits the engine better.

I asked my local dealer about the DMS upgrade on my M5 and he said that it would void the warranty, so I decided the car was quick enough.....

Whilst DMS offer a guarantee I hate to think what would happen if the engine went pop and the endless trouble in trying to get either to accept liability

As an aside, someone also told me that if you get your software update this would then overwrite the remap.....

I had a 535d that was DMS'd.....great car....only ever had it DMS'd so couldn't honestly give an opinion on it as standard!!

Had a couple of warranty claims on it as well that were without quibble....

I had my 535d remapped at 1000 miles. I had several minor warranty claims and no issues. I also had the software updated, which did wipe the remap. DMS and any reputable remapper will redo it for you for free though.

Use DMS or one of the big boys. If something does go pop i dont think any of them can afford to lose their reputation.

My 535d was chipped by DMS, was great, then BMW wiped it doing a software update and it felt positively sluggish in comparison.

So I would not even consider one of these cars without a remap, transforms them.

Don't overlook Torque Tronix - they've a number of guys on the mainland they work through.
Just don't go near Celtic Tuning, not after what I learned from an extended chat!

Thanks for all your comments. I will have a closer look at Superchips. Do they just remap the engine? Do they actually fit any equipment to the car?

Have a look at Evolve Automotive and also Emaps, both have good reputations. Check www.e90post.com it's a 3 series specific section of a BMW site, but has many 335d owners on it who have had remaps by various tuning companies (Evolve, DMS, Emaps, Speed Religion/Superchips etc). The other option is to go for an Evolve Switch unit, this allows you to upload / change your map at your discretion, so you can have your normal standard map on the car for Dealer visits etc and then switch to your "remap" stronger map when you want a bit of extra power. Unlike some other similar units this one is undetectable.

http://www.sp-tuning.moonfruit.com/#/bmw/453206354... give Jamie a call nice guy and he comes to you for a 3rd of the price of DMS. End of the day it's just a downloaded remap which has been used hundreds of times before.

Has anyone run a remapped 635d for over a year or so?

They feel fairly quick standard and just wondering if it's worth the £300 for a bluefin in real world driving conditions.

I ran a mapped cls 320cdi and it was nice, no major issues. Has anyone had issues with the 635d after a map?

Holy thread resurrection 7years+!

Yes they have and later incarnations of the model too.
They are quick as standard but remapped they will be 350bhp which is very much noticeable. The newer 3ltr x35d/40d are now pushing remap up to 400bhp.

I have a remapped 635d as my daily. It's running 365bhp but to get those figures you need a DPF removal - replaced with a high flow downpipe. This will likely void any warranty on the car and it is obvious as it dramatically changes the exhaust sound (for the better, I might add!)

I would steer clear of tuning boxes or 'chipping' and go for a full remap. I used Ecotune who are considered amongst the most respected BMW tuners in the UK.

Isn't this model now far too old to be in a warranty anyway?

They made them up to 2010. BMW still offer warranty on these. They are very solid cars however, especially the later models. A chip would make these cars very fast, but having taken a ride in them they are very fast enough anyway, and certainly tail happy too when pushed. These do weigh just as much as a 3 series, give or take some kilos.
