Recently purchased a Z4 Coupe. Loving it, but wondered if it is possible to upgrade the standard hifi. Assume this is very difficult/expensive??

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks.

Its very difficult and expensive.

Not much room behind / around the door cards for speakers and even at that speakers on their own will make very little difference as the head unit is fairly naff.

Could the BMW Logic 7 head unit/speaker system be retro-fitted?

I'm sure it could, but at considerable expense. Look at the Z4 forums and they will talk about 'on top' amplifiers fitted and then new components. I've never tried one of these.

The only way to make a significant inprovement is to replace the head unit, put an amplifer under the boot floor and put some half decent 3 way compnents in the front. An aftermarket head unit doesn't look too bad if you get the genuine bmw fascia plate and some of the head units, eg kenwood, can take adapters that make the steering wheel controls work.

Greg or Simon at Auto Audio are pretty kowledgable and will be able to suggest something, whatever your budget.

I've used an 'on top' box, and TBH it wasnt that good.

Replacing the head unit with a decent one, fitting an amp, replacing all the speakers with a decent one and you're talking £1000+. And you wont see that big an improvement, particularly as you'll need a bass box to get any bass in it, which will add another £300+.

These would be absolute minimums.

I priced up doing something similar in my 535d but with reshaping the door cards, and integrating the bass box into the side of the boot and it was £3000+ fitted....

Do Carver Hi-Fi set ups ever come up for grabs on eBay or the like?

Have that in mine and it really is pretty good.

10 speakers, 2 subs, amp in boot.

I didn't really notice it when buying my ///M but after owning a z4 2.5 and an Alpina Roadster S with the normal hifi, I would also say it was excellent

I'm loving the subs behind the seats, but will own up that 95% of the time it is switched off due to the sound of the engine - just beautiful

logic 7 is a must have option!

Its criminal how they get away with the such a naff standard sterio in such an expensive car. paying £1000 (or what ever it was) for some thing that should have been standard is just nuts!

Is it Logic 7 on facelift vehicles and Carver on pre?

I agree though, both fantastic bits of kit.

There is an Alpine upgrade for the E90 etc so there is no reason why there shouldn't be one for the Z4.

My dealer knew nothing about it until I quoted part numbers

On the thread that works above I quoted in my post, but they are for my E92. Have a look on Z4 forums or try phoning your dealer and asking. If he says they don't do one for the Z4 ask if they do one for E90 etc and if he says they don't do one, ask him to put the numbers in from the thread into their system and wait for the reaction smile

AFAIK yes.

Not heard the Logic 7, but the Carver is decent - THX certified too, which I found odd.
