Has anyone had problems with the exhaust manifold in a 530D E60 or E61. i've just had a new one fitted (£640). My car is out of warranty but only 63000 miles. BMW offered 40% off the part price on condition that I did not get the part back. I refused this because had been told by two BMW technicians including the one at our local dealership that they had changed loads of manifolds.
When I checkedthe old one, it has at least 6 cracks in the metal, some of them 75mm long. these are along the press marks where the parts have been formed. They are clearly down to manufacturing/design faults. It aint good to have raw exhaust straight from the head blasting around the engine bay. BMW dont seem to realise that exhaust fumes and fire can kill you because they are in denial about the problem. I have some pics if anyone is interested. BMW don't seem to be!!
