Sleeping in your E60 - DOH!
Discussion
Took a long drive to the north of holland last week. Set off at about 4pm to get the 7pm ferry to calais, then drove through belgium, and up to the north of the netherlands.
Given that I wasn't going to arrive until 1am, I figured I'd just kip in the car until friday morning as there was just me and I'm not too fussed about creature comforts, so no need trying to find a hotel that could handle such a late arrival. Plus I needed to be up early anyway, so would be a bit of a waste.
Anyway, parked up in a sheltered lay-by, took out lenses, brushed teeth, set up passenger seat and drifted off to sleep.
COme the next morning, up bright and early, quick splash of water over the face, lenses in then round to the drivers side to get on my way. Turn the key...
CLICK CLICK CLICK.
Oh crap.
I've got 1 hour until I need to be at my destination, which is only 3 miles away but I need to get there with my trailer. ARGH!
After some calls to my useless european breakdown cover who failed to do anything, I eventually collared a rather nice dutch chap who pulled in for a smoke and (thank f
king god) had some jump leads.
Anyway, off I went, left the engine running for an hour when I arrived and it's been fine since.
On the ferry on the way back, whilst waiting to disembark, I turned the key one click to turn on the electrics. I notice that the angel eyes have come on. Interesting I thought. Turned it off. ANGEL EYES STAY ON! Penny starts to drop... Open drivers door, angel eyes turn off!
Ooooh.
So, I think I left the ignition on whilst getting ready for bed, and then leaned over and turned if off from the passenger side and didn't open the drivers door, leaving the angel eyes on all night.
Howcome this really clever car, that will turn off my handsfree kit if I leave it plugged in and then warn me about it when I return, will quite happily leave its lights on and drain the battery leaving you stranded.
Or maybe I'm just not the calibre of person the car was designed for and I shouldn't be sleeping in it :P
