Hi there,

Coming up to first service time for the car, local dealer has quoted £212 for the service (plus £15 for a 'courtesy car'), just wondered how this compared to other places within the country or if anyone has better / cheaper option within North Wales / Chester area.

Cheers.

Its condition based servicing so it depends what the car says it needs. If it is just an oil service that sounds quite expensive. I paid £120 for an oil service at a main dealer last year.

It was purely a quote over the phone...mileage is at some 14k so wouldn't think it'll need to much else (break pads and the like)!

Ive just been quoted similar for the first service on my 123d, which includes oil service and microfilter (cabin air con filter) change adding an additional £45 on top of the oil change (the filter is £30). The actual labour is only about £50 in total though, the big markup is on oil so ask for a breakdown in price and you'll probably find they're charging you about £100 for just over 5L of oil, in which case say you'll supply your own.

You could get the correct spec of Castrol from Halfords for about £50 or a bit cheaper if you have time to order from Opie oils, go on the Castrol website if you don't know what you need, something like Castrol Edge 0w30 I think. I got 10L of oil (ie enough for 2 services) for £85 delivered, so Ive saved about £60 on the service.

shouldn't be that much on oil. the E92 M3 had an oil service the other day, and it was a little over 8 litres of oil at around 14-15quid each. 1litre top up bottles from bmw are £17. and i'm guessing that oil would be more expensive...?

Mine uses 5.2L of Castrol TWS (AKA Edge 10w60) which is the same as M3 / M5s etc use so probably the same as what you had. Prices undoubtedly vary but around here (Hants/Surrey border) Ive been quoted around the same price from two different dealers, and both times the breakdown in price has been £90+VAT just for supplying the oil, not including labour or filter. Filter was around £15 on top then another £40+ VAT labour giving a total of about £170 for the oilchange service.

Edit: I see you're in Hants too, which dealer did you get the E92 serviced at out of interest?

Hadn't realised that the oil could hike the price up so much, thanks for the tip, will drop in for a breakdown!
