From Top Gear laptimes

http://www.bbc.co.uk/topgear/show/powerlaps.shtml

BMW M3 1.31.8
Nissan 350Z 1.31.8
Mazda RX-8 1.31.8
BMW 535d 1.31.8

Imagine what a remapped one will do.

those times do surpise me! where they all in the dry or was the m3 in the wet as i very much doubt a 220bhp rx8 wouls stay with a m3 i doubt any of those cars would.

jesus christ not againsmile

The 911 Turbo at 1:31 should throw up that the conditions etc. should be taken into account when reading this stuff^^

The 535d is a quick car though - for a diesel.

p.s. thats the old M3, and I would speculate that the time is a sopping wet lap. If you have a 535d, just take it on a circuit somewhere - I can assure you that you will (on a like for like circuit) be far more than one second behind a 911 Turbo. In any weather.

Next person who mentions this odious debate will have their dangly bits wrapped around the fan belt whilst being demonstrated the "torquiness of the diesel engine"

Yes, we really ragged the nuts off it ...

but the 335d is much lighter and has a lower c of g.... surely it would be on par with an M3 with all that torque for getting out of corners faster?

Not a fair comparison as its the older M3.

E60 535D vs E90 335D vs E90 M3 would be interesting though

Why is it that the number 35 (when prefixed to either a 3 or 5) and the letter d makes some people utter wkers who loose grip on reality? It's like Rohypnol for car drivers.

He is right. I saw a 535d on the motorway doing 80mph and easily overtaking an M3 doing 60mph, so it must be quicker.

Debate over.

not sure about the 335d but the E90 M3 did a 1:25.3, the coupe would be 0.1 or 0.2secs quicker though. there is no contest between them smile still, the x35d cars are pretty quick by any standards really.

It was, as i said, in a tongue in cheek way, but thanks for branding me a wker.

I didn't brand YOU anything, though it seems I touched a nerve. My point was a general one based on some of the history of posts in this forum and others. The word 'some' I felt made that clear and you'll note I didn't quote you either.

Thanks for the clarification on that then.
