What should I look for on a 68K 320d se. Any problems? Are they the one to go for. Any must have extras etc. Thanks for any advice.

I'd say go for the M Sport. Apart from the st run flats theres no real problems that im aware of, the earlier ones had turbo problems.

Depends if you want no hassle motoring. If you do try elsewhere. If you like the challenge then lots of things go wrong. Swirl flaps, turbo actuator. Check BMWLand. EGR and Intakes get fouled up (but there again so do all turbo diesels).

46 or 90? I was assuming your refuring to the latter, in which case you shouldn't be having the problems mentioned above.

Post may, 2004 cars, check under bonnet on suspension strut, dont have the swirl flap issue, mines on 98k and is pretty good, Go m-sport its worth every penny more when you look at it.

I had a '04 320D ES that I upgraded with 17's, sports seats and cruise control (that includes the M wheel) and had a great 3yr/70,000 mile time with. It had absolutely no mechanical issues during that period just a couple of sets of pads and routine servicing. It did 145mph everytime I took it to Germany and swallowed up 500+ mile trips with ease. The uprated suspension and sports seats are well worth having and both standard on the M sport.

Interestingly I then moved on to a '08 320D M Sport and whilst the car and especially the engine are undoubtedly vastly superior, the handling is nowhere near as nice. I took out my mother's E46 320D M-Sport last week and the turn in and near-limit behaviour are just so much more more entertaining than the neutered E90 on runflats.

For that budget I'd have another E46 in a heartbeat.

Sport seats, half alcantara interior, dark roof headlining, some trim changes too.

Much nicer car than the SE, but priced accordlingly
