E46 - 330Diesel

Thinking of getting a used E46- 330Diesel Can anyone advise on what I should realisticaly expect to get M.P.G around town, I like the performance figures BUT not to sure if I should take the plunge due to running cost's.

Any advice would be welcomed !

I used to get 30 out of my 51 plate auto.

I get 45-50mpg on a long run and 35-40mpg under normal use in my 52plate 330d m-sport manual.

They are great engines.

My computer shows 26.4 all the time, it creeps up to 26.7 if we take it to the coast
This is all short journeys, ferrying kids, and the missus is always in a hurry!
chipped 330D Msport auto. I only ever drive like grandpa. Except once we had to get from Milan to Calais as quick as we dared, via Germany of course, average speed, 76 leptons and ave mpg 34. Absolutely awesome.

are you getting an auto or a manual, the manuals are a good few mpg better. i did 600 motorway miles in my 530d manual last week and still have quarter of a tank left

I've been considering a 30d of some description lately, but i've always had it in my mind it HAD to be an auto....i never realised just how different the mpg differs to that of the manual?!

My average mpg sits at 37, that's a mix of b-road, dual carriage way and town. Foot to the floor when I'm on the b-road, foot to the floor accelerating up to cruising speed on dual carriageway then cruise control on till I get to the town, economy in town all depends on traffic flow.

To be honest running costs are very good so far for me. I could do a lot better as far as mpg is concerned, dropping it into 6th for instance and trickling the throttle at a steady 60mph on the b-road will return 45mpg easily, but I tend to thrash it in 4th and 5th. It's very good on cruise though, 80mph in 6th sees 50mpg most the time.

Manual 330d btw.
