Hi,
This is my first posting on a forum... so please excuse me if there's a similar post elsewhere.
My beloved car had the wing mirror lens (passenger or n/side) vandalised cry (a common thing for people with nothing better to do than be wreckless). I went to the garage and got it 'fixed' but they put a horrid cheap after-market one and glued it on top of the old shattered one and it's not tinted and magnifies everything horribly.

Question: I'd like to go to a breaker's yard and get a lens off another similar car and get it re-done by the garage (or even myself if it's a non-technical job). I don't know if the one I have is heated. Can I pull the mirror off another old car or do I need to pull off one with all the wiring...

Advice please?
Thanks

Swapping the whole mirror is really easy - where the mirror meets the door, on the inside is a trinagle of trim. Prise this off, then you'll have access to the screws that hold the mirror in place. Also unclip the wiring before removal.

Refitting is the reverse etc.

From memory, the mirror glass itself will just unclip though, so if you find the right one then it should be a pull/push job.

The mirror glass should just clip into the mirror assembly with the only wiring you need to reconnect being the heated element connection. Mirror glass should be around the £20 mark from www.gsfcarparts.com - I just did my E39 after a pheasant-related incident.

Thanks guys - going to try getting the spare from a breakers yard or BMW dealer and giving it a go at the weekend! wink

To unclip it, tilt it up as much as you can, and get down underneath.
from memory, it's a black ring on the back of the mirror clipping in to the white plastic adjustor in 4 spots

if you can get a flat bladed screwdriver, you might be able to get it between the 2 and twist and it'll pop off.

when you are refitting, you'll need to push quite hard, so aim for the spots where the tabs will be rather than push the edges, and once clipped in, try to pull it off again to make sure it is properly attached.

They all went this morning I'm afriad.

There was a 318is, had to be broken for spares as it was proceeds of crime. All I wanted was kit, wheels and seats.

Others were just ropey part Ex's
