2000 E36 Compact cluster light checking

Hi Please can anyone tell me how to check if all the instrument cluster lights are working on my dash. Such as the engine light and airbag lights? Thanks

From memory, key in the ignition - but not turned on - then press and hold odometer reset button, then turn on ignition and the instrument cluster should go through its check cycle.

thanks for that. Iv tried it but the dials go round but the lights dont light up?
