Hi
Thinking of buying an E39 Diesel estate - about a 2001 model.

Anyone tell me the fuel consumption I can expect and also its Road tax group?

Thanks everyone

Steve

Road tax is in the £300 band IIRC, expect 32 combined on an auto.

pre 2006 reg'd cars over 226g co2 will now be paying £215 this year and £245 next, the retrospective raping seems to be quitely being shelved (fingers crossed)

my advise would be to save on the purchase price and maintenance costs (more things to go wrong) and pay a bit more at the pumps by buying a petrol version

I have a 2001 E39 530iA petrol estate - I am getting 25-27mpg, so not too bad really and not too different from the 32mpg just quoted for the oil burner. Though I think this might improve as I checked my tyres last night and I think I have a slow puncture in one as it was pretty low which I think will be affecting the mpg. I am expecting to pay £215 for VED this time around.

Just got a quote for an inspection 2 service at £340 inc VAT from an indie which might be worth comparing to the diesel equivalent.

£340 sounds pretty expensive for an indy.

Does it..? I called a couple of places (all following recommendations from PHers there's not that many to choose from as I am down in the South West...), and that price seemed about the best, but I am happy to keep ringing round if that price is over the odds.

BMW quoted me £450+VAT yikes

What price do you think I should be aiming for?
