It could be a fault with the switch pack in the drivers door arm rest, that has wiring and controlls for all doors and windows on the car and plays all sorts of tricks when its broken.
Is there any chance the car has been broken in to recently and the drivers door card removed to replace the glass? - thats what screwed mine up - caefully lever the switch pack out of the arm rest (no need to remove the door card) and make sure all the wiring plugs are securely connected. Make sure you take down the part number from the base of the switch while your at it so you can get a spare switch from a breakers - there are several different types depending on the options your car has.
Good luck!

Ok, took out control panel in drivers side door card,
all wires good an tight, no loose wires at all.
Control for central locking on car in middle of handbrake cluster,
along with haz warning lights, popped that as well, all wires tight. s

Me fearing the worse..break outside door handle to peek in and see whats what.
Any one I have showed this to lead to one thing.. small plastic clip or something in door
lock mech, only answer.. pull door card from inside or break outside handle, either way
not going to be pretty.

Had crossed my mind... leave car in Dublin northside.. wait for the usual suspects, let them open it.. then pat them on the back, job is oxo.... no only joking.. really i am. Yes good idea, have a man in dublin docks that use to open jap cars with keys locked in them, had a bag full of goodies for that type of job, seen him in actin, not the tastest of jobs but got door open, but it was on a paper thin starlet or civic.

Wire coathanger inside the window...

Thanks phelix , but child lock well an truly hidden. Me think door handle to be broken or as above, can get wire down between window an door frame.More i think of the wire idea, the more i think it might work.
