Well I've decided to shift the E46 as my new found passion (motorcycles) has taken grip and I can't afford to do both in the short term.

My E46 has had a fair bit of work and drives like an absolute dream, but I have a dilemma I'd like some advice on if I can?

The MOT runs out on the 25th June. With all the work I've had done, I expect it to pass with flying colours apart from my front left tyre. I had my near side bottom bush on the wishbone arm go, it wasn't noticeable until you got up to speed but has caused excessive wear on that tyre.

Q1. In peoples experiences, would trying to sell the car as-is, or with two new boots on the front with MOT be the best value sale?

Q2. I have Conti Sport Contact's all round at the moment. Would putting a different brand on the front affect a) the handling of the car adversely, and b) the resale value of the car excessively (due to the image that it's a bit half'n'half)?

Any advice greatly appreciated!

Personally I wouldn't worry about different tyres if I were buying a reasonably cheap motor (which an E46 likely is, relatively speaking) - it certainly wouldn't be a deal-breaker, though it might make me haggle a bit. My E46 330Ci has mismatched tyres and it handles fine as far as I can tell, and they all have a ton of tread so I've no plans to change them any time soon. I can't see it stopping someone buying the car if they otherwise like it...

Lots of E46's for sale, so unless you discount it excessively most punters will ignore your advert because there are plenty for sale that have MOT and new tyres.

Also there is a big difference to a buyer between a complete stranger with a vested interest saying that it will pass an MOT, and actually having a new MOT...no disrespect, but I wouldn't believe you...if it will fly through then just get it done, you'll easily recoup the cost come sale time.

Assuming we're not talking M3, I wouldn't worry about different brands on front/rear, most people won't care IMHO.

put it throughthe MOT mate for the sake of £50, if i was buying i'd want you to do it. there are plenty of E46's out there so you want to make yours as saleable as poss.
As for tyres i'd want to see at least the same tyres on the same axles, if the front and back are different thats not so much of a problem.

Thanks for the feedback people, much appreciated you took the time to make some very valid comments.

What has been said has only reiterated my own thoughts. New boots and an MOT this week it seems!

Thanks again.

If it's a sport model don't mix different tyres on the front & rear axles without researching that the particular combination will be ok. The sport suspension reacts quite badly to some combinations.
