I had a warning light come on at the weekend - on investigating, it appears to be the MIL light so could be due to an emissions problem. It stayed on for about 1 hour of driving, despite pulling over and turning off the engine.

It's never come on before and has now gone off of it's own accord. When it came on, I'd been on a rolling 40mph on the M25 for at least 45 mins, doing barely over 1000 rpm, so unsure if this was due to the unusual driving or if there's somehting on the way out.

Do these warning lights come and go as I thought it was goign to stay on permanently until I got it reset?

It activates the 'shes too good for you' suspension geometry.
