Am I going to do any serious damage by lightly scraping the underside of the z4?

I have a hump in the pavement in front of my driveway and it often scrapes when parking.

basically yes,you will do damage to the underside. This could range from merely scraping off the underseal leading to unseen corrosion,up to seriously damaging brake pipes possibly leading to brake failure or serious damage to the suspension/drive train, depending on what part is scraping.
At the end of the day the underside of the car is not designed to scrape against anything, hence the damage caused to low riding cars by those stupid speed humps.
The occasional scrape sometimes can't be helped but I'd be concerned by any regular scraping.
(P.S, not trying to scare you, just trying to keep a fellow motorist safe)

OK Thanks, I'd better get it into the shop and find out exactly what's scraping.

Get a piece of thick carpet, or sheet of thin wood to cover it with each time you go over it. At least then it won't do so much damage; I had this problem getting into the drive at my old house

Mine does the same on high speed humps, there is a plastic undertray which takes the brunt of any scraping (the front splitter is also a problem with driveways). When mine was in for servicing you could clearly see where it had made contact on the undertray but apart from some scratches it was little to be concerned about.

Are you sure that it's not just the flexible plastic air dams just behind the front wheels? Mine scrape over almost every speed hump in London unless I take them at walking pace.
I've given up about being precious about the front bumper also and resigned myself to the fact that the lower lip will need painting at some point.

If you are talking about hitting the centre of the car, then you need to get it on a ramp and see exactly what is making contact and whether it's a problem or not.

I had far fewer issues when I used to drive a Z06!

It's definitely at the midpoint between front and rear wheels and sounds like it's metal.

Thankfully it only sounds like a light scraping rather than full on grinding

And yes, the front bumper scrapes but I'm not too fussed about that.
