Hi guys

I collect a new 330D soon and would like to have the front bumper protected from stone chips, particularly as it's black.Ideally I'd like the film applied before I drive off the forecourt of the(Reading) garage.

Any suggestions as the the best products and an approximate cost?

Paintsheild/Armorfend/Ventureshield, etc. will all do a bumper for about £200 fitted.

If you want the mirrors, headlights, foglights, front spoiler, and bonnet leading edge done then you're looking at £500 or so.

It will stop scratches & chips, but it won't stop dents from big stones - saves you painting but you'll still have a good few tiny dents along the leading edges.

Whatever you go for, it should be UV stable, able to cope with normal car wash routine & chemicals, and should have a good guarantee.

If you're going to have it done, I'd recommend having it detailed first.

New cars do come with some horrific defects and imperfections.

Definitely! The latest BMW paintwork seems to be full of orange peel that only a sanding seems to remove. But make sure you complain to BMW about it when you pick it up, they might fix it up for you or give you a 'contribution' to get a professional (i.e. non-BMW) to do it.

It'll only look as good as the paint underneath it, so 'polishing a turd' phrase comes to mind.
