Hi all.

We have been to see a Z3 this afternoon that is advertised locally in a private sale. We really like it and it all seems to check out ok. The only thing being that there is a constant 'whine' from the back of the car whilst driving along. Is this, or could this be, the rear diff bearings that I have read a bit about?

If it is, are we looking at it costing a fair chunk of reddies?

We need to let this guy know our decision in the next couple of hours, so any real help would be great.

Thanks all.

Tibs,

I can't help on the diff noise, but why the urgency? There's tons of Z3's for sale - and I'd say the 1st rule of car buying applies - if you don't feel 100% comfortable or happy with the car, then walk - there's plenty more out there.

If the price reflects the risk of a new/exchange diff, sounds fair, if it doesn't walk away. As said, there's plenty out there.

If you aren't entirely confident in a potential purchase walk away. Plenty more fish...

Do Z3's use E30 or E36 based diffs?

So there's plenty of LSD options to chose from, have a look on Ebay.
