Throttle stuck closed, is it a known fault?
Discussion
I have had my R reg 318i laid up in my(dry) garage for 4 months, I am putting it back on the road this weekend but the gas pedal won't budge. It's either going to be a siezed cable or it's at the throttle body end, someone said theirs had done the same thing it's a known fault.
I have removed the black plastic cover by unscrewing the 2x 10mm bolts but it doesn't want to move at all and I din't fancy giving it a wack.
Any suggestions. The car fired up ok and will tick over but I can't blip the throttle.

Had a word with a friend and he said it's probably a carbon build up inside the throttle body, he said it just wants a good push/tap. My body language must have said 'come and show me what you mean' so we removed the plastic cover that covers the business end of the cable and sure enough with some gentle persuasion it released with a crack.
Made me wonder whether you should place something on the gas peddle just to leave it open an inch if you leave the car for any length of time.

Best thing to do would be drive the car more often, but if you couldn't then I suppose leaving the throttle open couldn't do any harm apart from inviting small animals to nest in there. My track car was laid up for over 6 months whilst I worked on it, and there was a collection of nuts in the air box that I guess a squirrel must have left there!Gassing Station | BMW General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
