Hi guys,

As some of you may have seen I plan to switch jobs this month, and therefore needed a comfortable car that looked smart (ish).

I decided that instead of spending the thick end of 4 grand I would buy a cheap e39 and keep some cash in the bank.

Its a very late 98 528i se Auto. It is in stunning condition.
120k But all maintained by BMW to start and an Indi more recently
Arctic Silver
Black leather (with sports seats biggrin)
Dark Walnut Trim
Business CD unit
Sport Steering wheel inc cruise ect.

All for the grand sum of £1900, 12 months MOT, and 6 Months tax.

I am very pleased, hopefully it has a bit more poke than the 525 I nearly bought, as I thought that was a tad slow.

I swear I have not read of someone that doesn't love their E39 I hope I am the same with this one smile

That is a smart looking motor you've got yourself there.

£1,900!! For that sort of money nothing even comes close IMO. e39's are ridiculously good value now. Great when buying but mines obvioulsy just sitting on the driveway quietly burning £20 notes in depreciation! frown

Still, it's a tough old buggar so the longer it's kept the better value I'm getting out of it.

Thank you. I am particularly happy with the interior, the sports seats make it imo. I don't want the nav as its st, and it has most of the other bits I want. Apart from heated seats.. And PDC, but I might have that fitted.

I rang a few up, and Goatboy off here almost got my money, there was a couple on trader, but I prefer to deal with a proper person who sounds honest and knows the cars, which they did(they had owned it 3 years), not some dodgy sounding bugger from Enfield!

Nice car Sir, E39's are worth trading your first born for biggrin

And I've just discovered that if the windows are going up and you remove the keys they keep on closing biggrin

Didn't spot this before. That is a good spec. The only reason I went hunting for a Sport spec was for the sports seats and steering wheel. I test drove an se and just didn't get on with the normal seats (too flat and very little support) ans the std wheel (felt too big).

Enjoy!

Indeed they do. But not if you open the door.

Which sort of slows down the whole "quick exit after driving with the windows down"

But you can just hold the lock button on the fob to finish the job once you are out of the car.

It's that kind of attention to detail that I love about the E39. Hot day, press and hold the fob and all the windows are down before you arrive biggrin

I'm toying with getting another e39 - loved the last one I had. Thought I'd go sensible and bought an e46 330Ci Sport. It's okay but I'd be much happier with another five.

yes

Congratulations on your purchase..!!

I love my '97 523i SE E39 to bits. Give it a polish every now and again, give the leather a good once over with the right stuff and it looks a million dollars. Brilliant car. Nothing else (for me) touches it for the money.

Good shout Grover, looks nice. Good wheels. I might change the wheels.

But more than likely I won' be arsed, just get in it and drive it each day. Glad I get a private parking spot (rare in London) as parking a ding less car with the great unwashed would result in me getting very angry. although I seem to remember the body was quite solid..

And yes the MINI has that window thing, I never use it biggrin

Forgot to mention that if you don't already have xenons, the standard headlights are a bit, well, rubbish. Post xenon retrofit it's a different world, a bright one!

Here's a good, informative site.

Thanks, the only thing I was thinking of doing was fitting the facelift lights, but I was of the impression that for this money it would be a bit ott..

Is it a job you can do yourself? What is the cost?
