Hi All,

Just picked this car up today from Leicester and drove back to Reading. Along the motorway the vehicle seemed to tramline alot. And at high speeds it felt a little scary because of it. Is this normal? Its on 18's with Bridgestone runflats all round, 225,40 - 255,35??

Thanks.

Yes, the run-flats will be causing most of the tramlining. Lots of people have changed to non run-flat tyres with a can of tyre weld and a compressor.

I changed my tyres after 12 months. Wish I had done it from the beginning of the ownership. Massive difference!

What tyres can I change to and what do you recommend???

Also, the only other moan I have is the fan. Its really loud with the aircon on. It sounds loud, like a fan but also sounds wobbly. This is my third bmw and none of them have been that loud???

I've not had any issues with my fans being loud, but yes, it's the RFTs causing the tramlining. Mine does it, as it's still on the original tyres.

Falkens (not sure what model) are favoured over on the Z4 Forum.

I should add though, there are a few on Z4 Forum that have bought different brand RFTs, and the tramlining has gone.

I do that drive regularly in my Z4C with the same wheels and tyres as you. Can confirm it is totally normal, due to the RFTs.

Seems worst just after junction 7 Westbound and Junction 10 Eastbound (M4) in the inside lanes where the road seems to have slight depressions in it.

Don't fret, it's worth it, hope you enjoy the car as much as I do mine.

Get a proper 4 wheel alignment as a priority. That'll make a difference.Next the runflats, if you have to have runflats, I gather the Michelin PS2 seem to cure the tramlining, but are properly expensive, or bin runflats and get either Falken 452's or I have Goodyear F1 asymetricals, which are ace. These 2 things will completely transform your car. Mine was exactly the same until I did these mods.Marcus.

Thanks all, that's great news. I'll get the wheel alignment done and wait until the tyres need replacing.

Thanks again everyone!

Sorry, not had an issue with my fan, sure the stealer will look at it.

I've got F1 Asymmetrics and am very pleased with them. One point though, if you've room to store a set of tyres, maybe change them sooner, and keep the rft's for when you trade it in. BMW stealers will deduct a good amount from your trade-in value if not on rft's. I think they look for 5mm tread remaining.

On the basis that they're not 'approved' for that car, so for it to be sold as an AUC they'd have to put RFTs back on, hence they'd pay you less to cover this cost.

Most owners would probably prefer the non-approved option though I'd guess.

Hello, I've had my z4 2.5 si for 8 months and the tyres are the worst of any car I've owned... however the rest of the car is fantastic, the engine note, performance and pleasant 35mpg at 80 make it superb, but a bit of wet white paint on the road and the car feels a handful ! First post for me here and its nice to hear the rft's upset other people to
