Have a 335i and got a system message to top up with a litre of oil. Not clear in the manual on which type to use exactly. Anyone with this same car know which oil to use. I remember a dealer mentioning Mobil but there seem to be so many flavours. Need to know ASAP as have a long journey tomorrow and cannot access the dealers till Monday. Cheers in advance.

Mobil 1 5w30 seems to the commom theme on a google search. Ring any bells? Halfords sell it if you get desperate.

Mobil appear to do an oil called Mobil 0W-40 which it says is designed for high performance engines. Anyone have any experience of this? It appears to also be BMW Longlife 01 compliant.

you can use any oil which is 'BMW LONGLIFE 04' approved.

This includes Castrol edge 5w30

castrol edge sport 0w40

the Mobil 1 equivalent can also be used.

Looked up the Castrol Edge 5W-30. The bottle specifies it is meant for Audi/VW vehicles. Is this the right one?

I've worked on Oil refineries all over the world, never seen anyone refine an oil for anamed car manufacture, don't fall for this sort of marketing rubbish. Look at API spec and for the additives you need.

I have some oil for your 335. Pm me if you wish. £8:50 a litre and can supply you wish the correct amount to take to the dealer for your next service also if you desire.

beats paying bmw prices of nearly 14 pound a litre.

Homebase have some cracking (and I mean cracking) offers on Castrol Edge oils at the moment, only in 1 litre bottles. I've bought all I need for the next 3 years so its now open to you to snap up all their LL04 stock!

It's down from £15/litre to £4.98. Bargain. I bought 20 litres.

Cheers! I'll be popping down this morning for a few spares.

Did you manage to get some? Apparently Halfords are price matching if you find Homebase out of stock?

I took advantage of Homebases' kind offer! None left locally to me!

Seeing as though my car takes 8 litres per change, it'd be rude not to have done so...

Halfords apparently have price matched for some people when shown the Homebase pricing for Castrol Edge and TD 1 litre products.

Can't comment personally.

I have a feeling that Castrol Edge is LL01 and Edge Sport is LL04. The Homebase offer at £4.98 is for Edge.

I got 8 litres of 0w 30 the other day for my next service on the X5 4.6 from Homebase in Ashford.clap
