bmw e30 should electric windows work with ignition off

hi does anyone out there know whether my electric windows should work with ignition off. i have serious battery dying problems and cant work out what it can be other than i just noticed windows work with ignition off, could this be the problem

Check that the 'Door closed' check switch is not broken. If it is the car will think the door is open and keep the electric windows live.I had dead battery issues on an old Jetta and after weeks of head-scratching found that the 'door close' switch for the boot was knackered.
