540i e34 head gasket?

Ive just bought a 95M e34 540i, yes a manual, and im a tad worried about the head gasket.

I havent taken it to a garage yet, but it has a very small amount of biege sludge on
the exp bottle cap.

It drives brilliantly, and temp guage stays dead in the middle no matter what or where
the drive is.

Doesnt use any water so far, and i put about a litre of all in when i first got it home.

So what do you guys reckon?

A small amount of sludge on the expansion tank cap I wouldn't worry too much about - as long as there isn't a lot of it and mayo in the oil cap (though a small amount of mayo in the oil cap is likely in a car that hasn't been used much - engine doesn't get hot enough to boil off condensation).

Might be worth changing the coolant and giving the system a good flush - perhaps get a garage to use one of those sniffer things to see if there is any exhaust gases in the coolant?
