E60 530d auto hunting problem @ 50 mph

hi all..... ive got problems again with my E60 530d.. at 50 mph the car is hunting and the rev counter is hunting up and down also if im slowing down ie coming of a motorway and i throtle off the rev's drop down to 1000 rpm and sort of hunt up and down from 1000 rpm to 1500 rpm any idear any one ??? what sort of mileage do you have on the car ?

hi.. done 100k... my swirl valves fell in to the engine two months ago and BMW put 1 new piston 1 new injector new Head inc turbo exhaust manifold and inlet manifold ETC in total the bill was 7k i had to pay £1500 towards it. thay did it as a good will geesture

can you feel the car surging when the revs are oscilating

hi... yes the car surges at 40/50mph when the reves are going between 2000 and 2500 ish ... but if i have the car in park and hold the reves at 2/3/400rpm its fine no hunting or fluctuating

sounds like mine. I'm due to get the gearbox rebuilt (I'm at 165k), it started this at about 120k - mildly - the view from the ZF specialist is that some plates in the box are starting to seperate - BUT he hasn't seen it yet, just telephone diagnosis.

yeh my gear box is acting up aswell when i go up hill from my house and the car goes to 2nd gear it gives me the feeling im driving over a cattle grid and even on the flat its slow changing up to 3rd gear ... iv been quoted £2500 for new box from ZF... This car is just a money pit, had merc's all my life and some had done 200k and never let me down this car could bankrupt me soon
